if the contest is hosted by an american company and if a Canadian won, the Canadian would still have to pay taxes. the only diff is Americans pay 30% Canadians pay 15%

canadians DO NOT pay taxes when they win a U.S. contest..but for something like this..i believe they will have to pay duty taxes if they bring the vehicles across the border..but not sure what amt this is..

It is possible that they will just have Canadian dealer provide prize to Canadian winner and there shouldn't be any taxes payable. I won a U.S./Canadian contest (3 year lease) and initially they indicated I would have to pay taxes, but then came back and said that I wouldn't as they were having prize provided by dealer closest to my house and not shipped from states. I felt bad for the U.S. winner, they were at a disadvantage.

Great about Canadian taxes. But where do I find 'rules'. If I won, would
I have to have a drivers licence, or could I give wins to my husband?
Thank you for your answer, Paquin.
