I'll take the cash. I don't want to live anywhere near Wendy Byrde.

Posted by: Sweeps2021 on March 10, 2024

Who's that?

Posted by: atentries on March 10, 2024

Haha. Wendy was a character in the series Ozark. Great show!

Sure hope they decide to make another season.

One Country really seems to be pushing the permission of sweepstakes in certain states and countries with their newer contests.

Posted by: cosky22 on March 10, 2024

the end date for this one is 5-31-2025.
2025 :)

What do you mean cosky?

Posted by: atentries on March 11, 2024

I've been entering One Country contests for a couple years and I noticed they updated some of the language in their official rules. The new AMOE pages now have an agreement checkbox to the following statement:

I have read and agree to the Official Rules, the rules specific to the Giveaway(s) I am interested in participating in, the Privacy Policy, and the Terms of Service. I understand that, if a Giveaway is not permitted in my state or country of residence, any entries I receive cannot be applied to that Giveaway. I understand that, if no Giveaway is permitted in my state or country of residence, I will receive no entries.

I'm sure its just legal stuff but its interesting that they added it to the AMOE pages. The official rules state to PLEASE CONTACT US AT SUPPORT@ONECOUNTRY.COM TO DETERMINE IF A GIVEAWAY IS OPEN IN YOUR COUNTRY, STATE, OR PRINCIPALITY.

I did contact them for my state of Washington and they just responded by copying and pasting the statement on the AMOE page. Little confused. Maybe it was recently an issue and they legally had to add it.

FYI - Prize Cabin worth $ 1,500,000.00, if you take the Cabin, Tax is 36 %, or $ 540,000.00, Must take out loan for that and make payment on that, If you take the cash for the $ 1,000,000.00, tax is 36 % or $ 360,000.00, must take loan for that amount and make payments, If you read the rules , One Country can pay the rest of your $ 640,000.00 in monthly payments for 360 months or 30 years, That payment would be $ 1,777.77. So while your making payment on Tax bill loan, you will get a monthly check from them for $ 1,777.77, Run the number, it's all true

cdavid, if you are paid over 30 years, you don't have to claim it all at once. You can claim ~33k each year. Then you pay tax out of the payment.

Posted by: atentries on March 15, 2024

I just posted a similar response in another One Country thread.

I agree with atentries. In my opinion, it isn't that you "don't have to" claim it all at once, it is that you should not be claiming the income all at once because that is not how it was received.

Posted by: Sweeps2021 on March 15, 2024

I would definitely claim it over time, but other people can do as they wish. Regardless, I'm not sure what the argument is here. Don't enter contests?

Posted by: atentries on March 15, 2024

Well I definitely think that cdavid is suggesting that this contest is not worth entering.

I'm certainly not a tax expert. I'm making an assumption that if you receive the full prize in a particular tax year, then you owe the full amount of taxes in that tax year. If they decide to pay the prize as an annuity, then you would only owe the taxes based on the amount you receive each year.

I really don't believe the taxpayer has a choice as to when they pay it, and I certainly don't believe you're on the hook for any portion of a prize that you have not yet received.

I won 2 years ago, took cash option, paid as $1041 each month for 20 years and am paying taxes yearly on the $12492

Posted by: crandreww on March 16, 2024

Thanks for confirming that crandreww.

And congrats on a nice win

Posted by: Sweeps2021 on March 16, 2024

If you take the cash option, is it always paid in monthly installments? Can you take the lump sum?

Posted by: djkilla on March 26, 2024

I'm entertaining daily through alternative method. Is that okay? Or is it once for alternative

Posted by: Krentkowski on March 31, 2024
